Ed Orgeron and LSU have reached an agreement that he will not return as coach of the Tigers next season, sources told ESPN, confirming a report by Sports Illustrated.

He is expected to finish out the remainder of the 2021 season as the team’s coach.

Orgeron had faced mounting criticism following LSU’s 3-3 start to the season that included back-to-back losses to Auburn and Kentucky. The Tigers beat No. 20 Florida on Saturday to improve to 4-3.

The separation comes less than two years after LSU defeated Clemson to win the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship.
